Lawyer & Former Workers’ Compensation Judge

Judge Wilson, a former State of Missouri Workers’ Compensation Judge, retired from that position after nearly 25 years of service, to join the law firm of Allen & Nelson in August 2017. Judge Wilson is now establishing a new office in Springfield, MO. The law firm now operates under the name of Allen, Nelson & Wilson with offices in Columbia and Springfield.

Judge Wilson grew up in Springfield, MO and attended Evangel University. He earned a law degree from George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, VA. During his tenure with the State of Missouri, Judge Wilson attended the National Judicial College and successfully completed the skills programs in mediation and administrative law. Judge Wilson is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Maryland and Virginia. He began his career practicing law in the Metropolitan area of Washington, D.C.

In addition to serving as a judge and practicing law, Judge Wilson’s professional career includes having served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri, with responsibilities involving representation of statewide officials and agencies in administrative hearings, circuit courts, and appellate courts. In his capacity as Assistant Attorney General, he served as general counsel to the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards and Division of Workers’ Compensation. Judge Wilson also served as Director of Missouri Division of Labor Standards, an appointment received under then Governor John Ashcroft.

From 1992 through 2017, Judge Wilson conducted over 850 trials and issued more than 700 Awards. As a judge, he often assisted parties in resolving their workers’ compensation cases by conducting settlement conferences and mediations, which enabled the parties to resolve their disputes and enter into Stipulations for Compromise Settlement, thus avoiding the necessity of having to go to trial. In this capacity, Judge Wilson conducted thousands of settlement conferences and mediations, and approved more than 10,000 settlement agreements.

As a member of the Missouri Bar Association, Judge Wilson served for three years as Chair of the Missouri Workers’ Compensation Committee. He is a frequent lecturer on workers’ compensation topics, including workers’ compensation seminars hosted by the Missouri Bar. Since 2005, Judge Wilson has served as a member of the adjunct faculty of Drury University and regularly teaches courses that include Judicial Process (CRIM 360), Social Security Disability | Workers’ Compensation Law (LEGA 263), and Government & Politics in the United States (PLSC 101).
